Anti Flag

Justin Sane - Vocals, Guitar Chris - Guitar #2 - Bass Pat Thetic - Drums Formed in 1994 after long-time friends Justin and Pat got the idea to start up a punk band to make a positive change, Anti-Flag have come a long way since they first started practicing in their basement. Unlike many of the melodic punk bands of today, these punks hail from the gritty industrial sprawl of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A place where punk bands oughtta be from! After paying their dues for a few years by putting out 7"s and playing shows, Anti-Flag released their debut full length in 1997 entitled Die For The Government. This marked Anti-Flag’s arrival onto the punk scene as they were making quite an impact by garnering loads of attention in numerous punk zines and by playing shows to hundreds of kids each night. In 1999 Anti-Flag brought forth their second proper full length, A New Kind Of Army, which was released on New York City’s Go-Kart Records. The album is a non-exclusive, universal call to arms for awareness and activism. A New Kind Of Army is a politically charged masterpiece with songs like "Free Nation?" and "We Got The Numbers" which exemplify Anti-Flag’s positive progressive message. Their sophomore effort was such a hit among the underground that they were invited to join the Warped Tour along with bands like Green Day, NOFX, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Donnas, Suicide Machines, and MxPx. It was on the Warped Tour where they met Fat Mike (founder of Fat Wreck Chords and frontman of NOFX) who expressed interest in working with the punkers from Pittsburgh. They were happy to accept his offer! Not long after Anti-Flag entered the studio to record with Mass Giorgini (producer of Born Against, Screeching Weasel, Smoking Popes, The Queers...). The result is Anti-Flag’s brilliant third full length, Underground Network. Anti-Flag pulled all the punk rock stops for their first release on Fat and gave us their best album yet! Underground Network is the complete punk rock record. Their best songwriting combined with great production makes it the best sounding punk release of the year. In addition, the liner notes are filled with provocative and engaging content in the form of essays, excerpts from alternative political media, and an extensive list of alternative media contacts. Renowned historian, political activist, and Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Boston University, Howard Zinn, even wrote an essay exclusively for Underground Network. Also, found within is a quote by Noam Chomsky, Professor M.I.T. and activist for human rights, and artwork provided by controversial artist John Yates, whose work includes cover art for punk rock icons, The Dead Kennedys. Anti-Flag have proven themselves as one of the great live punk bands of today, having toured the U.S. 13 times and played the entire 2000 Warped Tour. They were even invited by fellow politically minded musicians, Rage Against The Machine, to join Rage for 3 weeks on their "The Battle for Los Angeles" U.S. tour, proof that Anti-Flag is highly recognized and respected for both their music and their message. Look for continued success from Anti-Flag as they will be touring up a storm in support of Underground Network and continuing to spread their message of unity, equality, and social awareness. |
